Serena Williams on the April issue cover of Essence Magazine!

Venus WilliamsVenus couldn't have asked for a better third round at the U.S. Open. Unveiling a second night-match outfit tonight (a black dress, decorated in sparkling sequence in the form of fireworks), Venus made easy work of Mandy Minella of Luxembourg (a qualifier currently ranked 185). Venus won the match 6:2, 6:1 in One hour, 14 minutes.

Up next for Venus, will be Shahar Peer in the 4th round on Sunday. Venus has won all five of their previous meetings, but this will be their first meeting at the U.S. Open.

“I know she has the talent to do something big. She already has in her career,” Venus said about Peer. “I want to just get out there and execute my game to the point where I get to that next round.“

Serena wins 13th grand slam (4th Wimbledon Title (July 3, 2010)

Serena WilliamsSerena Williams further increased her title as the greatest female tennis player of her generation, today, defeating Vera Zvonareva in the Wimbledon final in two dominating sets--6:3, 6:2. The victory now gives Serena four Wimbledon singles titles, and 13 grand slam singles titles altogether.

Serena now has surpassed Billie Jean King (who has 12 grand slam titles), to move up to #6 in all-time grand slam singles titles among women. With Billie Jean King sitting in the royal box, Serena addressed and joked with Billie saying, "Hey, Billie, I got you! This is No. 13 for me now. It's just amazing to able to be among such great people."

Serena is now 13-3 in grand slam titles. With her determination, mentality, and on-court tenacity and hunger, there's no doubt that Serena reigns among the best. There's also no telling how many more slam titles are ahead of her. Congratulations, Serena - the women's Wimbledon singles champion, 2010!
