Serena falls to Azarenka in Qatar final

Serena was looking to have her cake and eat it too in today's final of the Qatar Open.  Having secured the #1 ranking come Monday already, Serena was looking to win her first Qatar Open final today, but came up short with a 7:6(6), 2:6, 6:3 loss to Victoria Azarenka.

Losing to Azarenka now for only the second time in thirteen meetings, Serena just didn't seem to have the greatest amount of energy on court today, and Victoria played a great match; Serena is fighting a cold this week, and is also still recovering from the right ankle injury that she obtained at the Australian Open last month.

Despite the loss, Serena will still be the #1 player come Monday, an achievement that Serena wasn't sure would ever be reached again in her career.  By achieving this feet, Serena now holds the record as the oldest player (31 years, 4 months)  to reach the #1 ranking in the Open Era.

Serena will have little rest, as she will return to action next week, competing in the Dubai Duty Free Open.
